Rainforest
You can't just measure the value of a forest in cubic metres of timber. Forests filter freshwater for salmon and people, provide sustenance for Aboriginal culture, offer us recreational opportunities, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and sustain rich biodiversity and wildlife. That's the true value of a forest.
Forests are also about cutting trees for timber, but practiced in a way that protects ecosystems and Aboriginal rights and title, maximizes value-added manufacturing and shares benefits fairly with local communities. That’s Ecotrust Canada’s vision.
Ecotrust Canada is a leader in promoting GIS, land-use planning, ecosystem-based management and FSC certification on the BC coast. We are designing an entirely new business model for how communities can profit from the inherent wealth of our coastal rainforests.
